What Does This Video Show me?
This video shows you the cloisters built by John Selot (master, c. 1455-1479), with assistance from Bishop Walter Lyhart (c. 1446-1472). In this respect, as in many others, the layout of the hospital was remarkably like that of a monastery. Indeed, the rules of the hospital were based on those of the Augustinian Canons, and the brothers had their own chapter house, on the east side of the cloister. Their lodgings were on the north side, with the master (like an abbot) lived in a separate suite of rooms, in the north-west corner. Click here to see a plan of the hospital.
